Expert Tips

Water Wisteria is one of the most forgiving and versatile aquarium plants available, making it perfect for beginners or anyone seeking reliable, fast-growing greenery. Plant in groups of 3-5 stems in nutrient-rich substrate to create lush, feathery backgrounds that add depth and movement to your aquascape. The finely-divided leaves develop best under moderate lighting - under lower light, the leaves may be less divided and more compact.

This plant thrives in low to medium light and doesn't require CO2 injection, though supplementation will enhance growth rate and leaf division. The fast growth rate makes it excellent for new aquarium setups, as it quickly absorbs excess nutrients and helps prevent algae establishment. Water Wisteria is extremely adaptable and can tolerate a wide range of water parameters. It can be grown rooted in substrate or left floating, where it develops extensive root systems that provide excellent shelter for fry and small fish. Regular trimming encourages bushier growth and prevents the plant from overshadowing other species. Propagation is effortless - the plant readily produces side shoots and adventitious plantlets on leaves that can be separated and replanted. This versatile plant works beautifully in nature aquariums, community tanks, and breeding setups.

All plants are shipped carefully packaged to ensure they arrive in excellent condition. Live plants may vary slightly in size and colour from photos. Portion size: 3-5 stems.

Acclimation: Float the bag in your tank for 15 minutes to equalise temperature, then plant directly in substrate.

Lighting: Most aquatic plants thrive at 0.5+ watts/litre with 6500K colour temperature for 6-8 hours/day.

Fertilising: Use a quality liquid fertiliser weekly. Root tabs help heavy root feeders.

CO₂: While not essential for most plants, CO₂ injection dramatically improves growth and colour.

Trimming: Regular trimming encourages bushy, healthy growth and prevents shading of lower leaves.

Dispatch: Plants are usually dispatched Monday to Friday from Perth, WA. During summer (Dec–Feb), dispatch is limited to early in the week (Mon–Wed) to avoid heat damage in transit.

It depends on the species. Check the Care guide tab — we've tagged each plant with difficulty (Easy / Medium / Advanced). Most of our range is suited to beginners with basic lighting.

Most aquatic plants we stock will grow without injected CO₂, but growth is dramatically faster and more vibrant with CO₂. The Care guide tab indicates whether CO₂ is required, recommended or optional.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.
