Expert Tips

US Fissidens Moss is a premium species that requires more attention than common mosses but rewards dedicated aquascapers with exceptional beauty and refined detail. Attach small portions to driftwood, rocks, or mesh using thread or super glue, ensuring good contact with the surface. The moss will gradually attach itself with rhizoids and spread to create stunning textured features. Position in areas with moderate to strong water flow to prevent debris accumulation and ensure healthy growth.

This moss performs best under medium to high lighting with consistent CO2 injection, which promotes compact, dense growth and vibrant green coloration. Without adequate CO2, growth will be significantly slower and the moss may struggle to establish. Maintain excellent water quality with regular water changes and stable parameters. The slow growth rate means patience is required, but the results are worth the wait. US Fissidens develops its characteristic feather-like appearance best when kept trimmed and maintained - regular gentle cleaning with a soft brush or turkey baster helps remove debris. This moss is ideal for creating detailed carpets on rocks, accentuating driftwood features, or adding refined texture to hardscape elements in nature aquariums and aquascaping competition tanks. Avoid planting in substrate - it must be attached to hard surfaces to thrive.

All plants are shipped carefully packaged to ensure they arrive in excellent condition. Live plants may vary slightly in size and colour from photos. Portion size: Golf ball sized portion.

Acclimation: Float the bag in your tank for 15 minutes to equalise temperature, then plant directly in substrate.

Lighting: Most aquatic plants thrive at 0.5+ watts/litre with 6500K colour temperature for 6-8 hours/day.

Fertilising: Use a quality liquid fertiliser weekly. Root tabs help heavy root feeders.

CO₂: While not essential for most plants, CO₂ injection dramatically improves growth and colour.

Trimming: Regular trimming encourages bushy, healthy growth and prevents shading of lower leaves.

It depends on the species. Check the Care guide tab — we've tagged each plant with difficulty (Easy / Medium / Advanced). Most of our range is suited to beginners with basic lighting.

Most aquatic plants we stock will grow without injected CO₂, but growth is dramatically faster and more vibrant with CO₂. The Care guide tab indicates whether CO₂ is required, recommended or optional.
