About this product

Masterline Root Caps slow-release fertilizer for planted aquariums

Masterline Root Caps are a premium slow-release nutrient solution designed to deliver essential macro and micro nutrients directly to the roots of aquatic plants. Each capsule ensures plants receive the optimal balance of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, iron, and trace elements for strong root growth, healthy leaves, and vibrant colors.

These root capsules are especially beneficial for delicate and slow-growing plants that require steady nutrition over time. Gradually releasing nutrients, they transform inert substrates into rich, fertile soil, revitalizing aquariums where nutrients are depleted. The result is a thriving planted aquarium with improved plant stability and lush growth.

Masterline Root Caps are entirely safe for shrimp, fish, and all aquatic life. The capsules do not alter water quality and can be easily removed after the nutrients are fully absorbed, ensuring a clean and balanced aquarium ecosystem.

Dosage and usage instructions

  • Insert capsules deep into the substrate, under plant roots, using tweezers for precise placement
  • Space capsules are approximately 10 cm apart to ensure uniform nutrient distribution
  • Refresh capsules approximately every three months or as necessary to maintain nutrient levels
  • Reinsert capsules that surface back into the substrate, and vacuum consumed capsules to maintain substrate cleanliness
  • Combine with Masterline liquid fertilizers for enhanced nutrient availability and plant growth

Recommendations and precautions

  • Monitor plant growth regularly and supplement with liquid fertilizers as needed
  • Handle capsules carefully and avoid contact with skin or eyes; rinse immediately if contact occurs
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets
  • Store in a cool, dry location away from sunlight, frost, and extreme heat
  • Use only in aquariums; do not ingest

Really noticeable difference in my plants. Noticed richer colour in my red plants.

The best root fertiliser I have ever used

MasterLine Root Caps from School of Scape are outstanding. Placing one cap near the roots of my crypts, amazon swords, and tiger lotus has produced noticeable growth improvements within two to three weeks. The nutrients released slowly from the cap feed the roots directly which is far more efficient for heavy root feeders than water column dosing alone.

Crypts and swords transformed after using root caps

My Cryptocoryne and Echinodorus plants have transformed since I started using MasterLine Root Caps. Both genera are heavy root feeders and the direct root-zone nutrient delivery from the caps is exactly what they need. Leaf size has increased, new leaves are emerging more frequently, and the overall lushness of both genera has improved dramatically.

Perfect complement to MasterLine All-in-One Soil

Using MasterLine Root Caps alongside MasterLine All-in-One Soil from School of Scape creates a complete nutrient system. The water column fertiliser covers stem plants and mosses while the root caps deliver directly to the rhizosphere for heavy root feeders. The combination produces the best overall plant results I have achieved.

Easy to insert and long-lasting

Inserting MasterLine Root Caps is very easy using aquascaping tweezers. I push each cap about 3-4cm into the substrate near the roots of target plants and the caps stay in place without floating or shifting. The slow-release formula provides nutrients for several weeks before needing replacement. Simple, practical, and highly effective root feeding.

Red tiger lotus growth accelerated dramatically

After placing MasterLine Root Caps near my Red Tiger Lotus bulb the growth rate of this plant accelerated noticeably. The lotus is a nutrient-hungry plant and the direct root-zone delivery from the caps clearly provides what it needs most. New leaves are emerging more frequently and the red colouration has deepened.

Does the job

My plants love it.

Great for inert substrate planted tanks

I use an inert sand substrate in one of my tanks and MasterLine Root Caps are essential for any root-feeding plants in that setup. Placing caps near crypts, vallisneria, and swords has allowed all three to grow successfully in the inert substrate. School of Scape stocks these quality root caps.

No algae spikes after introducing them

A common concern with root tabs and caps is whether they cause algae spikes from nutrient leaching into the water column. After using MasterLine Root Caps for three months I have had no algae spikes. The slow-release formula releases nutrients directly into the root zone rather than into the water column.

Chloe Pham
Vallisneria growth exploded after adding root caps

My vallisneria was growing adequately before MasterLine Root Caps but after placing caps near the root zones the growth has been extraordinary. The runners are producing new plants rapidly and the leaf growth is vigorous and lush. Vallisneria is a classic heavy root feeder and direct root-zone nutrition is clearly what it needed.

Works well in combination with active soil substrate

Even in an active soil substrate MasterLine Root Caps provide a useful nutrient boost for the most demanding root feeders. The active soil provides a good baseline but heavy feeders like large swords and lotuses benefit from the additional direct root-zone nutrition. School of Scape stocks both products.

Easy to use

Works exactly as it should. No algae issues at all when dosed correctly.

Safe for shrimp and all livestock

I confirmed MasterLine Root Caps are safe for shrimp before using them in my shrimp planted tank. Three months of use with caps placed near several heavy root feeding plants and my crystal red shrimp colony has not been affected in any way. No losses, no changes in behaviour, and the shrimp continue to breed actively.

Visible improvement in plant health within three weeks

Three weeks after placing MasterLine Root Caps from School of Scape near my most demanding root feeders the improvement was clearly visible. New leaves were emerging on plants that had been static and the colour depth of existing leaves improved. The slow-release formula delivers nutrients at the right rate for plants to absorb efficiently.

Part of a complete MasterLine fertiliser system

MasterLine Root Caps are most effective as part of a complete MasterLine fertiliser system. Combined with MasterLine All-in-One Soil for water column dosing and root caps for the rhizosphere School of Scape allows Australian hobbyists to run a fully integrated professional-grade fertiliser system from a single trusted European brand.

Bucephalandra growth improved significantly

I tried placing MasterLine Root Caps near some of my potted bucephalandra and the growth improvement has been significant. The new leaf production rate increased within three weeks of adding the caps. School of Scape stocks these quality root fertiliser caps. This unexpected benefit for a non-typical root feeder confirms the broad effectiveness.

An essential product for any serious planted tank

MasterLine Root Caps have become an essential product in my planted tank maintenance routine. No matter how good the water column fertiliser system is some plant species simply need direct root-zone nutrition to thrive. The caps provide this simply and effectively. School of Scape stocks this quality European product.

The slow-release formula, the shrimp-safe composition, the easy insertion, and the visible improvement in plant growth and pigmentation all confirm this is a quality product. Highly recommend.

Consistently excellent results across different plant types

MasterLine Root Caps deliver consistent improvement across every root-feeding plant species I have tried them with. Whether crypts, swords, lotus, or vallisneria the response is always the same – faster growth, larger leaves, better pigmentation. School of Scape makes the full MasterLine range accessible to Australian aquascapers.
