Rare Compact Echinodorus for Foreground & Midground

Echinodorus Tropica is a unique aquatic plant that breaks the mold - unlike most Echinodorus species that grow large and dominate backgrounds, Tropica stays remarkably compact. This rare characteristic makes it one of the only Echinodorus suitable for foreground and midground placements, bringing the classic sword plant aesthetic to smaller-scale aquascapes with vibrant green foliage and elegant form.

Why Choose Echinodorus Tropica?

  • Compact Growth: Stays small unlike typical Echinodorus - perfect for foreground to midground
  • Unique Versatility: One of the only Echinodorus species suitable for smaller placements
  • Vibrant Foliage: Rich green leaves add lush character without overwhelming the scape
  • Hardy Nature: Adapts well to a variety of water conditions
  • Beginner Friendly: Easy to maintain with reliable growth

Care Requirements

  • Lighting: Medium to high
  • CO2: Recommended for optimal growth and compact form
  • Temperature: 22-28°C
  • pH: 6.5-7.5
  • Growth Rate: Moderate
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate

Expert Tips from School Of Scape

Echinodorus Tropica is a game-changer for aquascapers who love the sword plant aesthetic but need compact options. Plant directly into nutrient-rich substrate with the crown just above the surface. This species responds beautifully to root fertilization and maintains its compact form under higher light with CO2 supplementation - conditions that would cause most Echinodorus to grow large. Regular removal of older outer leaves encourages fresh, compact growth. Position in foreground or midground areas where its unique size allows it to shine without dominating the layout. This plant opens up design possibilities previously unavailable with traditional Echinodorus species, perfect for nature aquascapes and Dutch-style layouts alike.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.

Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)

Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
