Echinodorus horemanii, commonly known as Green Sword, is a robust rosette plant that brings lush, vibrant green foliage to your aquascape. Its broad, lance-shaped leaves with prominent veining make it an excellent centerpiece or accent plant for midground to background placement in larger aquariums.

Growth Characteristics:

  • Rosette growth form with broad, lance-shaped leaves
  • Rich green coloration with prominent veining
  • Leaves emerge lighter green and develop deeper tones as they mature
  • Can reach 20–30 cm in height, making it suitable for larger aquascapes
  • Moderate growth rate with proper nutrition

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Medium light sufficient for healthy growth. Tolerates a range of lighting conditions.
  • CO₂: Beneficial but not essential; enhances growth rate and leaf size
  • Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate essential; heavy root feeder that benefits from root tabs
  • Temperature: 22–28°C
  • pH: 6.0–7.5

Placement & Design:

Ideal as a focal point in midground to background areas where its lush green foliage can create depth and structure. Plant as a solitary specimen or in small groups for maximum impact. Pairs beautifully with red plants like Ludwigia or Alternanthera to create striking colour contrast, or with other green plants for a cohesive, natural look.

Maintenance:

Remove older outer leaves as they fade to encourage new growth. Benefits from regular fertilization, particularly root tabs to support its heavy feeding requirements. Propagate via adventitious plantlets that form on flower stalks.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.

Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)

Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
