I've been building iwagumi scapes for four years and Dark Seiryu Stone from School of Scape is now my go-to hardscape. The deep black-grey base with the dramatic white calcite veins is genuinely striking and photographs incredibly well. I ordered around 8kg for a 60cm tank and the variety of piece sizes meant I could build a natural-looking mountain cluster without any awkward gaps. The stone is dense, heavy, and stays in place easily. Rinsed thoroughly before use and water stayed crystal clear. Absolutely love the result.

I've used standard grey Seiryu before but the Dark Seiryu from School of Scape takes it to another level. The deeper black-grey tones with those white veins create so much more visual contrast against the green plants and light substrate. I used it in a nature aquarium layout with HC cuba carpet and the result is breathtaking. Each stone had interesting natural texture and sharp angular edges that look exactly like a rocky mountain range underwater. Really impressed with the quality and value.

One of the best things about this stone is the crevices and rough texture – they're perfect for attaching java moss, fissidens, and mini anubias using aquascaping glue. I've built a small rock cluster in my 45cm tank with three pieces of Dark Seiryu and the attached plants have rooted in and spread across the stone surfaces beautifully. The colour of the stone provides an amazing dark backdrop for all the green growth. School of Scape packed everything securely and it arrived without any damage.

I was a bit worried about ordering heavy stone online but School of Scape packaged everything very securely and every piece arrived intact. The Dark Seiryu is exactly as described – deep charcoal grey base with striking white calcite veins. The jagged, angular texture gives the scape a dramatic, rocky mountain feel. I used it combined with some fine white sand substrate and the contrast is spectacular. Very happy with the quality and will definitely order more for my next build.

Set up a 40L shrimp tank using Dark Seiryu Stone as the primary hardscape and it's been a huge success. The natural crevices and irregular surfaces give my crystal red shrimp endless hiding spots and foraging surfaces. The black-grey colour of the stone also looks stunning in a shrimp tank – especially when the shrimp are in full colour perched on the white-veined surfaces. I've used Dark Seiryu Stone in both an Iwagumi-style layout and a nature aquarium forest scape and it works beautifully in both. In the Iwagumi the larger pieces create a dramatic mountain range effect. In the forest scape, smaller pieces provide texture and grounding around the driftwood. I was initially concerned about how the stone would affect water chemistry but after rinsing thoroughly and soaking for a day the water has stayed crystal clear since adding it to the tank. pH has risen very slightly which I was prepared for and is easily managed with regular water changes using RO water. Finding hardscape that goldfish can't disturb is challenging – they're notorious for moving lighter rocks and decorations. Dark Seiryu Stone is heavy enough that my large goldfish can't shift the pieces at all, and the tough surface is completely fish-safe. I've attached some java fern and anubias to the stones and even the goldfish won't eat them. The tank looks incredible with this stone as the foundation and it's been completely hassle-free maintenance. Really glad I chose this over lighter rock options.
