About this product
Icelandic Lava Rock Blue Fairy basalt aquarium décor stone
Bring a touch of Iceland’s raw volcanic beauty to your aquascape with Icelandic Lava Rock, also known as Blue Fairy Lava. This stunning basalt stone is formed when molten lava cools and hardens, creating a porous, lightweight, and highly textured surface perfect for aquariums, terrariums, and natural décor projects.
With its bluish undertones, rugged edges, and gold-brown highlights, Icelandic Lava Rock adds depth, contrast, and an unmistakably natural charm to aquascapes.
Usage instructions
- Rinse thoroughly before adding to your aquarium or terrarium
- Arrange in clusters or as focal pieces for dramatic aquascapes
- Combine with plants and contrasting sands (Sugar White, Evergreen, or Tanami Gold) for striking visual balance
- Soak before use to release any surface dust or loose particles
Recommendations and precautions
- Icelandic Lava Rock is safe for freshwater and marine aquariums, but always rinse before use
- Some edges may be sharp, so smooth them if keeping delicate fish or bottom dwellers
- Stone darkens when wet, enhancing its natural volcanic beauty

⚠️ A note on this natural product
Every stone is one of a kind. Because this is a natural material, its size, shape, texture, colour and mineral markings — and, where sold by weight, the number of pieces you receive — will vary, so the photos are a guide rather than the exact item you'll get. Natural pitting, holes and lighter mineral veining are part of the rock's character, not faults. We can't guarantee a set mix of small, medium or large pieces unless it's arranged with us before purchase.
Want a particular size or shape? Message us before ordering and we'll do our best to hand-pick pieces to suit your scape.
