Dragon Stone

Dragon Stone from School of Scape is simply outstanding. The unique honeycomb-like porous texture and warm earthy tones make it the most versatile aquascaping stone I've worked with. I've used it in nature aquarium layouts, Dutch-style scapes, and even a jungle-style build and it works beautifully in every context. The 8kg pack gave me a brilliant mix of large feature pieces and smaller accent stones. Everything is completely inert – not a single change in my water parameters after adding it. Each piece is entirely unique which makes layout work genuinely creative and enjoyable.

I keep a softwater tank with crystal red shrimp and cardinal tetras – both species that are very sensitive to water chemistry changes. Dragon Stone is one of the very few rocks I can use with complete confidence because it's completely inert and doesn't affect pH, hardness, or any other parameter. The 8kg pack from School of Scape had a great variety of piece sizes and the earthy brown-grey tones look beautiful in a softwater biotope setup. My shrimp are thriving and exploring the many crevices constantly. Brilliant product.

What makes Dragon Stone so special is that unique scale-like surface texture that looks almost like dragon scales under the water – hence the name. No other aquascaping rock replicates this aesthetic. Under aquarium lighting the crevices and pores create fascinating shadows and depth that make the hardscape look genuinely three-dimensional. I've built a cliff-face style layout using the 8kg pack from School of Scape and it looks extraordinary. The warm earthy tones pair beautifully with green plants and a light sand substrate. A truly distinctive hardscape material.

One of the most practical advantages of Dragon Stone over denser stones like Seiryu is the weight. It's noticeably lighter which makes layout work much easier – you can hold pieces for longer while positioning them and rearranging the composition doesn't become a physical effort. The 8kg pack from School of Scape still provides substantial visual mass because of the size of the pieces but handles much more comfortably. The earthy tones and porous texture look fantastic and the stone is completely safe for my planted tank and shrimp. Very happy with this purchase.

The 8kg pack is perfectly calibrated for Dragon Stone – you get a good spread of large statement pieces and smaller accent stones that work together to create a natural, layered hardscape. I used the full 8kg in a 75cm aquascape and had just the right amount to build a convincing rocky cliff arrangement with no awkward gaps. Every piece had that distinctive Ohko texture and warm earthy colouring. Water parameters stayed completely stable from day one as expected with this inert stone. School of Scape packaged everything securely and it arrived in perfect condition.
