Vallisneria is a classic and highly popular aquarium plant, valued for its long, flowing green leaves and easy-care nature. Its grass-like growth creates a natural underwater appearance and makes it an excellent choice for filling the background of freshwater aquariums.
Once established, Vallisneria spreads readily through runners, gradually forming dense groups that provide excellent cover for fish and help create a lush, natural aquascape.

Vallisneria is primarily a root-feeding plant and benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate or regular use of root fertiliser. Avoid planting the crown too deeply; the base of the leaves should remain just above the substrate.
Aquascaping Applications
Vallisneria is ideal for creating tall, flowing backgrounds in planted aquariums. It can be planted along the rear or sides of the aquarium to soften hardscape, hide equipment and create a natural wall of vegetation.
Its long leaves move gently with the aquarium's water flow, adding movement and depth to the aquascape. For the best visual effect, plant several Vallisneria together and allow the runners to gradually fill the surrounding area.
