Sagittaria subulata (Dwarf Sag) is a popular, hardy foreground plant known for its grass-like appearance and ease of care. Native to the Americas, it features slender, sword-shaped green leaves that form compact rosettes, making it ideal for carpeting in freshwater aquariums.
This versatile plant adapts well to a range of water conditions and can thrive in both low- and high-tech setups. While it grows faster with moderate to high lighting and a nutrient-rich substrate, CO₂ supplementation is optional. Given the right conditions, S. subulata spreads quickly via runners, creating a lush, vibrant foreground or midground cover.
Its low profile makes it especially suited to nano tanks and minimalist aquascapes, but it’s equally at home in jungle-style layouts. In some setups, the leaves may grow taller, giving it flexibility to also serve in the midground.
