Square cornered nets trap fish in the seam, which is where fins tear and scales get knocked. A rounded corner net gives the fish nowhere to wedge, so catching is quicker and gentler for everyone involved.

Choosing your size
- 3 inch. Nano tanks, shrimp, fry and quarantine work.
- 6 inch. The everyday size for community tanks and most small to mid size fish.
- 10 inch. Large display tanks, ponds and bigger bodied fish.
Using it well
- Wet the net before use, as dry mesh damages the slime coat
- Guide fish into the net rather than chasing, which reduces stress for the fish and for you
- Rinse and air dry fully after use
- Keep a separate net for each tank if you are managing quarantine or disease treatment
Why keep more than one size
Most aquarists own one net and use it for everything, which usually means the wrong size. Too large and you cannot manoeuvre in a planted scape without demolishing your foreground. Too small and you chase the fish around the tank for ten minutes. A three net set costs less than a single livestock loss.
