Obsidian Shard Stone is an incredible addition to any aquascape revealing subtle sparkles and intricate textures that offer a deep contrast against green planting, and a finish that looks almost wet even out of the water. When submerged the rich colour intensifies, highlighting every edge, curve, and natural fracture. Bold, dramatic, and truly one of a kind, Obsidian Shard brings a stunning volcanic character and feel.
A note on the name: this is not true volcanic obsidian. Obsidian Shard is our name for this stone because of its glassy black look and shard like fracture. It is a natural aquascaping stone selected for its colour and form.
Usage instructions
- Rinse thoroughly under running water before adding to the aquarium
- Use the sharpest, tallest pieces as focal stones and break up the outline with smaller shards
- Excellent for dark, moody layouts, iwagumi variations and high contrast nature scapes
- Pairs well with bright green carpets, red stem plants and light coloured sand
Recommendations and precautions
- Some edges can be sharp; handle with care and position away from areas where delicate finned or bottom dwelling fish rest
- Test water parameters after adding, as with any new hardscape
- Natural material, so shape, size and finish vary between pieces

Because this is a natural material, its size, shape, texture, colour and mineral markings — and, where sold by weight, the number of pieces you receive — will vary, so the photos are a guide rather than the exact item you'll get. Natural pitting, holes and lighter mineral veining are part of the rock's character, not faults. We can't guarantee a set mix of small, medium or large pieces unless it's arranged with us before purchase.
