Expert Tips

Myriophyllum mattogrossense is a demanding but spectacular plant that develops its most vibrant red-orange coloration and dense feathery growth under high lighting and consistent CO2 injection. Plant in groups of 5-7 stems to create lush, colorful backgrounds that serve as stunning focal points. The finely-divided leaves create exceptional texture that contrasts beautifully with broader-leaved plants and adds depth to aquascapes.

This plant requires high light intensity to develop and maintain its vibrant red hues - under lower light, it will remain predominantly green with looser growth. CO2 injection is essential for optimal growth, color development, and maintaining the characteristic dense, feathery appearance. Nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilization are important, with particular emphasis on iron and micronutrients to support intense coloration. The fast growth rate means regular trimming is necessary to maintain desired height and encourage bushier growth. Propagation is straightforward through stem cuttings - replant healthy tops to create dense, colorful clusters. Position in areas with strong lighting and good water flow to maximize color intensity and prevent algae accumulation on the delicate foliage. This premium plant is ideal for Dutch-style aquascapes and nature aquariums where intricate texture and bold color are desired.

All plants are shipped carefully packaged to ensure they arrive in excellent condition. Live plants may vary slightly in size and colour from photos. Portion size: 5-7 stems.

Acclimation: Float the bag in your tank for 15 minutes to equalise temperature, then plant directly in substrate.

Lighting: Most aquatic plants thrive at 0.5+ watts/litre with 6500K colour temperature for 6-8 hours/day.

Fertilising: Use a quality liquid fertiliser weekly. Root tabs help heavy root feeders.

CO₂: While not essential for most plants, CO₂ injection dramatically improves growth and colour.

Trimming: Regular trimming encourages bushy, healthy growth and prevents shading of lower leaves.

Dispatch: Plants are usually dispatched Monday to Friday from Perth, WA. During summer (Dec–Feb), dispatch is limited to early in the week (Mon–Wed) to avoid heat damage in transit.

Live shipping: Plants ship via Express Post with insulation and heat/cool packs as needed.

It depends on the species. Check the Care guide tab — we've tagged each plant with difficulty (Easy / Medium / Advanced). Most of our range is suited to beginners with basic lighting.

Most aquatic plants we stock will grow without injected CO₂, but growth is dramatically faster and more vibrant with CO₂. The Care guide tab indicates whether CO₂ is required, recommended or optional.

Will it have snails or pesticides?

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.
