Hemianthus micranthemoides, commonly known as Pearl Weed is a delicate and versatile aquatic plant widely appreciated in freshwater aquariums. Native to North America, it features small, round to oval bright green leaves that grow densely along slender, creeping stems.
This plant is highly adaptable and can be grown both as a carpeting foreground plant or as a bushy midground filler, depending on how it is trimmed and maintained. Under sufficient lighting and nutrient-rich conditions, it grows quickly and forms lush, compact clusters, enhancing the natural look of aquascapes.
Pearl Weed thrives in medium to high light, with the addition of CO₂ injection significantly improving its growth rate and appearance. It propagates easily through cuttings, making it a favorite among aquascapers who want to create vibrant underwater landscapes.
Its fine texture and vibrant green color make Hemianthus micranthemoides an excellent choice for aquariums of all sizes, from nano tanks to large aquascapes, where it provides shelter for small fish and shrimp while contributing to a healthy, balanced ecosystem.
