Cardamine lyrata, commonly known as Japanese Cress, is a graceful stem plant with delicate, serrated leaves that add texture and movement to your aquascape. Its bright green foliage and bushy growth habit make it an excellent choice for midground to background placement.

Growth Characteristics:

  • Upright stem growth with whorled leaf arrangement
  • Bright green, serrated leaves that create visual interest
  • Bushy, dense growth when trimmed regularly
  • Each portion contains 3–5 healthy stems
  • Moderate growth rate under good conditions

Care Requirements:

  • Lighting: Medium to high light for compact, vibrant growth
  • CO₂: Beneficial but not essential; enhances growth speed and leaf colour
  • Substrate: Nutrient-rich substrate recommended
  • Temperature: 18–26°C (prefers cooler temperatures)
  • pH: 6.0–7.5

Placement & Design:

Ideal for midground to background areas where its vertical growth and textured foliage can create depth. Plant stems individually or in small groups for a natural, bushy appearance. Pairs beautifully with smoother-leaved plants like Rotala or Ludwigia for contrast.

Maintenance:

Regular trimming encourages lateral branching and prevents legginess. Propagate easily by replanting trimmed tops into the substrate.

Package Details:

4 pots, each containing 3–5 healthy stems ready for planting.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.

Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)

Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
