Bleeding Heart Tetra is a beautiful and distinctive choice for planted aquariums, loved for its signature red “heart” marking and graceful schooling movement.

Why you will love it

  • Elegant mid-water schooling fish for community aquariums (min. 5)
  • Unique red spot on the body gives it standout character
  • Grows to an approximate size of 5–6 cm
  • Best kept in groups of 5+ for confidence and natural behavior
  • Generally peaceful, with occasional mild fin-nipping

Care requirements

  • Care level: Easy
  • Adult size: 5–6 cm
  • Temperature: 24 to 28 °C
  • pH: 6.0 to 7.5
  • Swimming level: Mid
  • Minimum group size: 5+

Feeding:
Provide a varied diet. A high-quality staple (flake or micro-pellet) along with regular frozen or live foods (such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms) helps maintain vibrant colour and health.

Compatibility:
Best kept with peaceful, similarly sized fish. Can occasionally nip fins, so avoid slow-moving or long-finned tankmates. Thrives in well-planted aquariums with open swimming space.

School of Scape quality:
We select healthy fish and recommend careful acclimation and stable water conditions for optimal results.

Acclimation: Drip acclimate over 30-45 minutes to match your water parameters before introducing to your tank.

Water parameters: Maintain stable pH, temperature and hardness. Test weekly with reliable kits.

Feeding: Feed small amounts 1-2x daily — only what fish consume in 2 minutes.

Tank mates: Research compatibility carefully. Avoid mixing aggressive species with peaceful schooling fish.

Maintenance: 25-30% weekly water change with gravel vac keeps inhabitants healthy.

Dispatch: Live fish dispatch Monday–Tuesday from Perth, WA. Orders placed Tuesday–Sunday will ship the following Monday.

Is my tank ready for new fish?

Your tank should be fully cycled with stable parameters (0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, <20 nitrates) before adding new fish. If you're unsure, message us with your test results.

How are fish shipped safely?

Each fish is bagged with oxygen and packed in insulated boxes with heat or cool packs as needed. We ship Monday–Wednesday only to avoid weekend delays.

What's your live arrival guarantee?

If a fish arrives DOA, send us a photo within 4 hours of delivery (in the unopened bag) and we'll replace or refund.

Can I mix this with my existing fish?

Check the temperament tag and water parameter ranges. We're happy to advise — message us with your current stocking and we'll let you know if it's a good match.

How long should I acclimate?

Drip acclimate over 30–45 minutes to match your tank's water parameters. Don't dump the bag water into your tank.
