About this fish
Black Tiger Dario
A small, bold micropredator from northern Myanmar, with dark vertical banding and a confident personality. Males colour up intensely once settled and are a real centrepiece in a nano or species tank.
Quick facts
- Adult size: up to about 3.5cm
- Temperament: peaceful with other fish, males can be territorial with each other
- Diet: prefers live and frozen foods (brine shrimp, daphnia, cyclops); may ignore flakes. Skip bloodworm, which makes them overweight.
- Water: cooler than most tropical fish, 20 to 24°C
- Tank: well planted with caves and leaf litter for cover
Keeping tips
- Keep one male per smaller tank, or provide plenty of broken sight lines
- Best with calm tankmates; avoid fast, boisterous feeders that outcompete them
- Will hunt baby shrimp, so not ideal for shrimp breeding tanks
Live fish. Colour and pattern vary between individuals.
