Marsilea hirsuta is a delicate carpeting plant prized for its clover-like appearance and versatile growth habit. Unlike emersed-grown varieties, our submerged-grown Marsilea hirsuta adapts immediately to aquarium conditions with minimal transition period. The plant maintains its compact, low-growing form (2-5cm height) and develops dense coverage quickly, making it ideal for creating stunning foreground carpets in both nano and larger aquascapes.

Separate into small portions (2-3 leaves each) and plant 1-2cm apart in nutrient-rich substrate. Gently press roots into substrate without burying the crown. For faster carpet establishment, plant portions closer together. Submerged-grown plants will establish faster than emersed varieties.
Maintenance:
Trim regularly to maintain low carpet height and prevent vertical growth. Provide adequate lighting and CO2 for compact, dense growth. Without sufficient light and CO2, leaves may grow taller and less compact. Benefits from root fertilization and iron supplementation for vibrant green coloration.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.
Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)
Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
