Sagittaria subulata is a popular, hardy foreground plant known for its grass-like appearance and ease of care. Native to the Americas, it features slender, sword-shaped green leaves that form compact rosettes, making it ideal for carpeting in freshwater aquariums.

This versatile plant adapts well to a range of water conditions and can thrive in both low- and high-tech setups. While it grows faster with moderate to high lighting and a nutrient-rich substrate, CO₂ supplementation is optional. Given the right conditions, S. subulata spreads quickly via runners, creating a lush, vibrant foreground or midground cover.

Its low profile makes it especially suited to nano tanks and minimalist aquascapes, but it’s equally at home in jungle-style layouts. In some setups, the leaves may grow taller, giving it flexibility to also serve in the midground.

Key Features:
  • Scientific Name: Sagittaria subulata

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.

Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)

Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
