Expert Tips

Ludwigia Mato Grosso is a demanding but rewarding plant that develops its most spectacular red-orange coloration under high lighting and consistent CO2 injection. Plant in groups of 5-7 stems to create dense, colorful clusters that serve as stunning focal points in your aquascape. The narrow, needle-like leaves create unique texture that contrasts beautifully with broader-leaved plants.

This plant requires high light intensity to develop and maintain its vibrant red-orange hues - under lower light, it will remain predominantly green. CO2 injection is essential for optimal growth and color development. Nutrient-rich substrate and regular fertilization are critical, with particular emphasis on iron and micronutrients to support intense coloration. The plant benefits from nitrate limitation, which can enhance red pigmentation. Regular trimming encourages bushier growth and prevents excessive height. Propagation is straightforward through stem cuttings - replant healthy tops to maintain compact, colorful growth. Position in areas with strong lighting to maximize color intensity. This premium plant is ideal for Dutch-style aquascapes and nature aquariums where bold color accents are desired.

CO2 requirements vary by species. Check the Care Information tab for this specific plant. Many of our plants can thrive without CO2, though growth may be slower.

Most of our aquarium plants are grown submerged (underwater), which means they adapt faster to your tank and are less likely to melt. This gives you stronger roots and instant success. The exception is our terrarium plants, which are grown emersed (above water)

Due to the perishable nature of live plants, we cannot accept change-of-mind returns once dispatched. However, our 24-hour arrival guarantee covers any plants that arrive in poor condition.
