Care Information
Preparation: Rinse thoroughly under running water before use. Blackforest Root is dense and typically sinks within 24–48 hours with minimal soaking. For faster results and to reduce tannin release, boil for 30–60 minutes before adding to your aquarium.
Water Parameters: Blackforest Root will release tannins, creating a natural amber tint in the water. This is ideal for blackwater biotopes and species that prefer soft, acidic conditions (like Betta, Tetras, and Rasboras). If you prefer crystal-clear water, use activated carbon in your filter or pre-soak the wood for several weeks with regular water changes.
Maintenance: Rinse occasionally during water changes. Some biofilm may develop initially—this is normal, beneficial for your ecosystem, and will be consumed by shrimp and algae-eating fish. The dark color is permanent and will not fade over time.
Shipping & Returns
Shipping: Blackforest Root ships via Australia Post or StarTrack. WA metro orders typically arrive within 3–5 business days; interstate orders may take 5–10 business days depending on location. Due to the density of this wood, larger pieces may incur additional shipping costs.
Returns: We stand behind the quality of our hardscape. If your Blackforest Root arrives damaged or you're not satisfied, contact us within 7 days for a refund or replacement under our Refund Policy. Please note: due to the natural variation in root structure and color intensity, we cannot accept returns based on appearance preferences—each piece is one-of-a-kind.
⚠️ A note on this natural product
Every piece of driftwood is one of a kind. Because this is a natural material, its size, shape, form, grain and colour — and, where sold by weight, the number of pieces you receive — will vary, so the photos are a guide rather than the exact item you'll get. Natural knots, curves, texture and colour variation are part of the wood's character, not faults. We can't guarantee a set mix of small, medium or large pieces unless it's arranged with us before purchase.
Want a particular size or shape? Message us before ordering and we'll do our best to hand-pick pieces to suit your scape.
