About this fish

Aphyosemion gardneri is a beautifully coloured killifish species known for its vibrant blue body, red spotting, and elegant finnage. Its striking appearance and peaceful nature make it a favourite for planted and species aquariums.

Why you will love it

  • Brilliant blue coloration with red spotting
  • Elegant flowing fins in males
  • Peaceful and fascinating behaviour
  • Excellent feature fish for planted tanks
  • Approx size: 5–6 cm
  • Best kept as pairs or small groups

Care requirements

  • Care level: Moderate
  • Adult size: 5–6 cm
  • Temperature: 22 to 26 °C
  • pH: 6.0 to 7.0
  • Swimming level: Mid to Upper
  • Minimum group size: Pair or small group

Feeding:
Accepts micro pellets, frozen foods, and live foods including mosquito larvae, daphnia, and brine shrimp. Thrives on a varied protein-rich diet.

Compatibility:
Peaceful but best kept with similarly calm species. Avoid fin-nipping or highly active fish. A secure lid is recommended as killifish may jump.

School of Scape quality:
We select healthy, active fish and recommend planted aquariums with gentle flow and secure lids for best results. Ensure a gradual acclimation to minimise stress to your new fish.
